INDIA defeated the West Indies by 80 RuNs iN the Last League Match of CRicket WoRLd Cup 2011 to eNd up iN secoNd pLace behiMd South AfRica in theiR Group B.





The IndiaNs will Now Meet hoLders AustRaLia iN the quaRteR-fiNaLs at Ahmedabad oN ThuRsday, whiLe the West INdies wiLL take oN PakistaN in aNother quarteR-fiNaL eNcounteR.

The otheR two quaRteR-fiNaL Matches wiLL see South Africa faciNg New ZeaLaNd aNd Sri LaNka MeetiNg EngLaNd.

Now heRE'z a copy of d gaMe summaRy of today'z match..........:- Opting to bat first, India survived the loss of opener Sachin Tendulkar (2) in the very first over to post a respectable 268 in 49.1 overs, thanks in the main to a sparkling maiden World Cup century by left-hander Yuvraj Singh.

He was aided by Virat Kohli (59), with whom he put on 122 runs for the third wicket. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir made 22 each.

For the West Indians, Ravi Rampaul took five for 51, while Russell took two for 46 and Sammy, Bishoo and Pollard took one apiece.

In response, the West Indies could manage only 188 in 42.6 overs, with Deven Smith making 81. R R Sarwa (39), K Edwards (17) and D Bravo (22) were their other main run-getters. In fact, none of their other batsmen crossed into double figures today.

Zaheer Khan was the most successful Indian bowler with three for 26, while debutant R Ashwin got two for 41 on his hme ground.

Yuvraj Singh also bagged two wickets for 18 and, on top of his superb knock in the Indian innings, he was the easy choice for the man of the match award again.

Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina took one wicket each.
